Obviously, it's much better to get the AZ vaccine than Covid. But ATAGI acknowledges a risk and gives people agency. That is a more sustainable path for vaccination now and in the future. Acknowledging risk should raise vaccination rates, not lower them.

But many of us *do* consider risk. I was disabled by a CT sinus non-contrast. I can't take NSAIDs or paracetamol due to chronic illness. ATAGI is there so that non-disabled ppl don't drown out disabled voices, incl. future disabled. Best way to increase uptake is transparency. 1/

@NC_Robinson This emphasises the key point that I and others have been making: we need accurate information to be put out quickly for fully informed consent. If TGA and ATAGI hadn’t changed advice, the loss of confidence would be worse. Deaths from VITT after AZ were/are expected.

@GregDore2 @LouieLouLouigi Why does ATAGI refer to UK risk 1:250,000?

Germany fast to document syndrome and possible treatment. Surveillance clearly stronger found 1:100,000. UK had to go back and search. Probably under reported.

Why isn’t there an age based risk calculated. It’s misleading.

@LouieLouLouigi Yes, it’s not good. Risk remains incredibly low, but in current environment that’s not palatable. Key question is whether a death in 48 yr old individual will lead ATAGI to raise the age bar to 60 yrs.
