This led to despair and depression for Ignaz Semmelweis. And he ended up locked in an asylum, his license taken away from him and later he died of a hospital fever, in sad irony. 💔

@HollieTheCard The mention of stubborn doctors make me think of Ignaz Semmelweis. Only just a contemporary by a few years. I have always had a soft spot for the irascible Hungarian.

@MK_IDpharm @BedsideRounds @KarminnaE @PCP_USciences Puerperal fever had high mortality rates during the 18th and 19th century. Ignaz Semmelweis also known as the "father of infection control" pioneered hand washing and the mortality rates dropped. If he were alive today, I wonder what he would say now given the pandemic.

@JimReaper11 @zafarctl @AJEnglish I simply ask that you educate yourself, research your own government. What people assume to be “tin foil” hat wearing crazies today will be the Tesla’s, Gregor Mendel, Ignaz Semmelweis, George Zweig’s of tomorrow. Remember Galileo? He was crazy. Dismiss what you don’t understand

In 1847 a Hungarian🇭🇺 Dr Ignaz Semmelweis, discovered the now-basic hygienic👏 practice as a way to stop the spread of infections.

Semmelweis played his role, you too can play your role. Wash your hands and encourage your community to make #handwashing a habit.

@Woodywing @Bridge99Peter @Scienceofsport Have you heard of Ignaz Semmelweis. Nobody believed him. I'm honestly not going to argue, I just personally believe( and there is loads of evidence to prove it) that women's physiology makes them better at extreme distance

@SilencedIsTaken @auzzeVGC @BeastRevealed @realDonaldTrump The Encyclopedia Britannica documents that in 1845, Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis in Vienna was horrified at the terrible death rate of women who gave birth in hospitals. As many as 30 percent died after giving birth. Semmelweis noted that doctors would examine patients who died,

@sleight_ofminds @DrNickCrombie Alright, when I get to meet you I wont wash my hands after I wiped my bottom.
I mean I'm not payed to wash my hands.

I'm perfectly fine because the idea from Dr. Ignaz Philip Semmelweis is just a 200 year hoax by the soap companies so they can sell more soap.

@drsimonegold Dr Gold, You all remind me of a man named Ignaz Semmelweis who stood up to his medical community in the 19th c. He tried to stop them from perpetuating sickness and death from puerperal fever caused by their dirty hands. Women faired better in the gutter than the hospital.

Spent last week learning about Ignaz Semmelweis, the man who theorized that handwashing stopped disease. His work was ridiculed until 20 years after his heartbreaking death in an insane asylum. How would he feel if he could see us now? More here:

Because Ignaz Semmelweis chose to fight the status quo without a strategy.

Like the same people fighting "mainstream media" today.

History repeats itself.

@BadMedicalTakes @BadCOVID19Takes I propose we exhume Ignaz Semmelweis (the guy who discovered that doctors washing their hands between patients and handling corpses saved lives) and connect his grave to a generator.

Him rolling in his grave could singlehandedly solve all the world's energy needs by 2022
