I was just listening to a bit of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in a commercial and it hit me that what made Jim Steinman so great was his ability to sell that kind of stuff without a hint of irony even though we know from Bat Out of Hell, he had lots of it.

I think Jim Steinman doesn’t get the credit he deserves for adapting his writing style to bring the best out of Mr Aday as an undoubted showman and performer par excellence. Sad that incredible stage presence and confidence eluded him later.
